Verna Coleman

Verna Mae Coleman, born on July 10, 1943 in Pontotoc, MS, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. Raised in Smithville, Mississippi, she attended Smithville High School and furthered her education at Itawamba Community College before marrying her high school sweetheart, James Daniel "Danny" Coleman, on June 2,1963. The couple moved to Starkville, MS, while Danny completed his college education, and later returned to Amory, MS, to start their family.

Verna and Danny settled in Becker, MS, where they lived for over 25 years. Verna was a beloved member of the community, working as a Bank Teller at Security Bank of Amory for 35 years. Her warm smile and genuine care for others made her a cherished figure in the lives of many.

Verna had a love for the outdoors and spent countless hours working in her yard, finding joy in the simple beauty of nature. Verna enjoyed playing dominoes and tennis with her dear friends. These gatherings were filled with laughter and friendly competition, bringing joy to her life and to those around her.

She was also an avid snow skier, delighting in the thrill of the slopes with close friends and family during winter vacations. These adventures created lasting memories that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to join her. Verna and Danny also enjoyed vacations in the Smoky Mountains.

Verna’s greatest joy in life was being a mother and grandmother. She loved her family deeply and cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Known for her warm and outgoing personality, Verna never met a stranger and loved to talk. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued.

A devoted member of First Baptist Church, Verna volunteered her time for many years, with a special passion for working with the Christmas Child Boxes, bringing joy to children around the world.

Verna is preceded in death by her mother, Leona Hale Clay; her father, Calvin Maurice Clay; her sister, Dorthy "Dot" Harlow; her brother, Alan Clay; and her son, Danny Russell Coleman.

She is survived by her loving husband, James Daniel "Danny" Coleman; her daughter, Tracey Coleman Riddle (Nelson); her grandchildren, Cole Riddle (Rebecca), Rebecca Lyn Riddle, and Dani Coleman Nolley (Andy); and her great-grandchildren, Bryan Russel Nolley, Wilmon Briggs Riddle, and Lainey Elizabeth Riddle.
