Shawna McNiel

It is with profound sadness and heartfelt reverence that we announce the passing of Shawna McNiel, a vibrant soul whose fiery spirit and effervescent zest for life left an indelible mark on all who were privileged to know her. Born on February 16, 1968, Shawna’s earthly journey came to a close on May 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy rich in love, laughter, and unyielding devotion to family.

A proud graduate of Jacksonville High School, Shawna carried her education forward with grace and determination, forging a commendable career as an Assistant Manager at both Walmart and Dillards. Her professional endeavors were marked by a dedication and tenacity that mirrored the spirited, feisty nature she was so well known for. Indeed, Shawna was nothing short of a firecracker—outgoing, energetic, and always ready to light up a room with her infectious laughter and quick wit.

Faith was a guiding beacon in Shawna’s life. As a devoted Christian, she found strength and comfort in her beliefs, which sustained her through life’s triumphs and challenges alike. At the heart of her world was family; she was immensely proud of her sons—Brandon Schiefelbein (and Merritt), Zack McNiel (and Kristen), and Nolan McNiel (and Avery Hawkins)—and her cherished grandchildren: Owen, Jack, Blake, Benson, and Madison. Their joy and happiness were her highest accomplishments, and her love for them was beautifully expressed through tender moments, such as singing “You Are My Sunshine” to her boys, a melody of warmth and reassurance that encapsulated her nurturing spirit.

Shawna’s vivacious personality extended beyond her kin to her closest friend and confidante, her sister Gina Gray (and Lyle), with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. She is also survived by her mother, Linda Moore; sisters Terri Bennett (and Steven) and brothers Patrick Moore (and Pam) and Chad Moore (and Tina), along with a host of nieces and nephews who will carry forward her legacy of humor, love, and playful mischief. The family mourns the loss of Wayndell Leon Moore, her beloved father, and Jacob, a cherished nephew, who preceded her in death.

Her passions were as varied as they were vibrant. Shawna found joy in the melodies of music icons like Bruno Mars, Prince, and Taylor Swift, her heart beating in rhythm with their songs. An ardent supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs, she celebrated every victory with fervor. Perhaps most memorably, she delighted in laughter—her sharp sense of humor and love of pranks brought smiles and lighthearted moments to those around her, fostering an atmosphere of joy wherever she went.

As we bid farewell to Shawna McNiel, we remember a woman whose feisty spirit was matched only by the depth of her compassion. She was an effervescent firecracker, a loving mother and grandmother, a loyal sister and friend. Her legacy is one of boundless love, unrestrained laughter, and a life lived fully and authentically. Shawna’s memory will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her, a shining light whose flame will never be extinguished.
