Ruby Hairston

In Loving Memory of Ruby Hill Hairston

Ruby Hill Hairston, 95, of Amory, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, at River Place in Amory, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on January 6, 1930, to Leona Crosby and Robert Hill, Sr., Ruby lived a long and beautiful life filled with purpose, family, and faith.

A proud graduate of Becker High School, Ruby played basketball and was honored as “Most Beautiful” by her classmates. After high school, she began her working life at the Amory Garment Plant. She later managed B-Quick in Aberdeen and retired from Big Star in Amory. Ruby married Clarence Hairston (deceased), and she raised four children: Clara Hairston of Amory, MS; Norma Morrison Cole of West Point, MS; Wanda Hairston (Mike Boone) of Hudsonville, MS and James Hairston (deceased). Her legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren: Taylor Neal of Tampa, FL; Justin Hairston (Jessica) of Moore, OK; Alexandra Edwards (Jacob) of Rockwall, TX; and Harvey Lee Morrison III (Cheyenne) of Mathiston, MS — along with six great-grandchildren who were the joy of her later years.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband, Clarence; her son, James Elliott Hairston; her infant son, James Robert Hairston; her brothers, Robert Hill, Jr., Howard Hill, and Crosby Hill; and her sisters, Bettye Sue Pierce and Lucy Vaughn. She possessed a wide variety of quilt making skills and she won accolades for her quilt of the United States, which hung on display at the Amory Public Library. She was a devoted member of East Amory Baptist Church and treasured her time attending Sunday services until her health no longer allowed. Ruby’s faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her strength and resilience. She was courageous, spirited, and full of life — her laughter was contagious, and her presence always lifted the room. Ruby Hill Hairston leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and steadfast faith. Her memory will live on in the lives she touched and the hearts that hold her dear.

A private funeral service will be held for the family on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Quincy Durrett Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life for friends and family at her home in Amory, Mississippi.

Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers at this time.
