Amory — Robert Clayton Williams, 69, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at North Mississippi Medical Center, in Tupelo. Born on March 9, 1949, in Amory, MS, he was a son of the late Homer Willard and Betty Etoil Harlow Williams.

Robert grew up with a large family in Amory. He graduated with the Amory High School Class of 1967 where he was very active and played football and basketball. He attended Wood Jr. Community College where he played basketball and he later attended Millsaps University. His career took him many places during his lifetime, including Tupelo, Jackson, MS, and California as well as Amory. He spent an early part of his career training EMT’s on CPR techniques, then God led him to become a Youth Pastor for many years, where he served in many cities with the Methodist Church. He also served in Merced, California, in Education Ministry with the Methodist Church. Later, he became a writer for publications such as the Itawamba County Times, where he was the Sports Editor, for The Daily Journal as a sports writer, and lastly for The Monroe Journal.

A man who lived life to the fullest, Robert loved being with his family, children and grandson. Because of his love for God, he had a servant heart. He volunteered for the Habitat for Humanity where he helped build a home in Amory and several in the Jackson area. Robert was a great entertainer and he always made people laugh. He was quick witted and a great storyteller. A sports fanatic, Robert played sports throughout his life, including church softball and basketball leagues. He enjoyed traveling to watch sports games, especially the Atlanta Braves. He was skilled in photography and he loved being outdoors, enjoying God’s masterpieces. Robert liked to listen to 60’s music and attending Theatre productions. Some of his hobbies were carpentry, officiating basketball, and doing anything outdoors. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him yet memories of him will live on forever.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Valerie Campbell (Michael), Tupelo; son, Kelly Williams (Leah Cook), Collierville; sister, Patsy Wiley (Jackie), Smithville; grandson, Aaron Campbell, Tupelo; a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Betty Etoil Williams; sisters, Vera Nell Williams (infant), Lois Faye Thompson, Eupal Mae Conn Danner, Bobby Nell Payne; brothers, Richard “Dick” Williams, and Wallace Williams.

A Memorial Service for Robert will be held at 6 PM Monday, November 19, 2018 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Kevin Edge officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Dryden, Charlie Williams, Jack Oliver, Tommy Thompson, Dennis Thompson, Ricky Williams, David Williams, and Al Wiley.

Visitation will be on Monday, November 19, 2018, from 4:00 pm until the service hour at 6:00 pm at the funeral home in Amory.

In lieu of flowers, donations and memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 121 Habitat Street, Americus, GA, 31709.
