Robert led a remarkable life filled with purpose and passion, marked by his unwavering commitment to family, country, and work. A proud veteran, Robert served in the Army National Guard, where he not only fulfilled his duty to his country but also found camaraderie among his fellow guardsmen, whom he considered family. His skills as a marksman shone through when he was selected for the shooting team, an accomplishment he regarded with immense pride.

Professionally, Robert had a long and distinguished career. He began his journey at American Motors in Illinois, then working for his father-in-law for C & D Lumber Company where he painted houses which eventually got him the nickname of “Painter”. His work ethic never waned, and he demonstrated his adaptability and commitment through all his roles. Lastly, he went to work for over 25 years of dedicated service as a fork lift mechanic at Walker Manufacturing in Aberdeen, MS. The camaraderie he shared with his coworkers was a significant aspect of his professional life, and he maintained close friendships throughout his various jobs.

His love for exploration saw him embark on travels that included memorable trips to the Smoky Mountains and relaxing days at the beach in Gulf Shores. These experiences enriched his life and allowed him to enjoy nature's beauty.

Family was the cornerstone of Robert's existence. He was a gentle soul, easy-going and carefree, who found immense joy in simply being with his loved ones. His marriage to his beloved wife, Peggy Jo Sanderson, was a testament to his love for family, as they shared 61 remarkable years together. His children, Richard Gregory "Greg" Sanderson (Teresa) and Robert Lynn Sanderson (Kim), and his grandchildren, Jesse Ray Sanderson (Leah), Bobby Lee Sanderson (Malorie), Starr Perry (Patrick), David Streets (Destin), and Liz Kroenor (Jeff), were a constant source of pride and joy.
