Robert Chambers, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, in Hatley, Mississippi, at the age of 87. Born on July 11, 1938, in Monroe County to the late Robert and Hattie Chambers, Robert was a man whose life was marked by dedication to work, a profound love for his family, a unique sense of humor that endeared him to many.
Robert began his career working alongside his father at a sawmill before embarking on his own path driving a truck at the tender age of twelve years old. His work ethic and commitment to providing for his family were evident as he hauled cotton and pulp wood. He met Mabel the love of his life when he was fifteen and she was twelve. Three years after meeting they were married on September 1, 1957. In 1961, he joined Pucketts Lumber Company, where he dedicated himself until his military service called him to duty. Robert was drafted in 1961 and honorably served for two years before returning to Monroe County, where he continued his career and ultimately retired from Walker MFG after 40 years of service.
Throughout his life, Robert was known for his humble demeanor and infectious laughter. He was always ready to share a light-hearted joke and had a knack for picking on those around him in good spirit. His hands were often busy in his beloved shop, where he would tinker away with various projects and pursuits. Beyond his work, Robert found joy and peace in the great outdoors, thoroughly enjoying fishing, camping, and hunting. He also cherished the moments spent singing in a gospel quartet at Walker, sharing his love for music with others.
Robert leaves behind a legacy of love, pride, and hard work. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Mabel Chambers; son, Richard Chambers (Reanett); granddaughter, Ashley Griffin (Bruce); great-granddaughter, Akelei Madison; and great-grandson, Ryker Madison. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Mavis McCrary; brother-in-law, Thomas Pierce; many nieces and nephews; and a treasured feline companion, Cuddles.
Robert is preceded in death by his father, Robert A. Chambers Sr.; mother, Hattie Simmons Chambers; sister, Mildred Roberts and her husband; sister, Opal Pearce; sister, Sudi Mae Justice and her husband; sister, Audrey Cox and her husband; brother, Russell Chambers; sister-in-law, Elsie Mae Louis and her husband; brother-in-law, Elton Pickle; and brother in law, Bill McCrary and several nieces and nephews.
