Michael Dale Shields
Amory – Michael Dale Shields, 53, passed away on February 29, 2024 at his residence in Caledonia, Mississippi. He was born on December 8, 1970, in Amory, Mississippi to the late Roger Dale Shields and Linda Worthey.
Micheal grew up in Monroe County and entered into the United States Army at a young age. He was a Patriot and a Hero. During his career in the military, he was deployed three times to serve the United States. He received numerous medals and awards, including Iraq Campaign Medal w/ Three Stars, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Combat Action Badge, National Defense Service Medal, just to name a few. Humble, he was offered the Purple Heart Award several times yet always turned it down as he felt as though he never earned it. He also was a truck driver and traveled all over the US. He had two nicknames, “Tank” and “Midnite”. His father and he were a part of the same Tank Battalion which was called “Old Ironsides”.
During his lifetime, he was blessed with two children. He was a great provider for his family and his military career kept him overseas. He loved his family and he sacrificed for them through his service overseas and for that they are grateful. He was a good man and he kept his word always. Michael was a very independent, stubborn soldier yet a selfless and generous man. He would give you the shirt off his back and never ask anything in return.
Michael loved animals as it seems, sometimes in life, that people were easy to judge him, so he appreciated the sincere love by all types of animals. Animals were drawn to the man he was on the inside, not the appearance on the outside. Animals always loved and trusted him. From skunks, to dogs, to wolves, to cats.
He enjoyed working with his hands, fixing and creating all sorts of things. Michael especially liked working on vehicles and he was a talented mechanic. In his downtime, he enjoyed racing and spending time with his friends and family. He was incredible at Motocross, racing with big names on the scene and having a bike built by Redbull themselves. He injured himself constantly and never let it stop him. He has multiple towering trophies from his time racing in motocross.
He will be missed dearly and all the great memories will be cherished forever.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheyenne Shields (Emory), Tupelo; son, Montana Shields, Plantersville, MS; brother-in-law, Robbie Rost. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger Shields and Linda Worthey; and his sister, Tina Shields Rost.
A private family memorial service will be held.
