Mary Ruth Ridings, 96, passed away on August 31, 2026, at her home in Amory, Mississippi. She was born on January 20, 1930, in Unity, Mississippi.
Mary attended Shannon School and was originally from Shannon. She later spent her adult life in the Liberty community, where she became a longtime member of Liberty Baptist Church. Her faith was an important part of her life. She loved the Lord and often spoke about the Lord and the Bible.
Mary worked as a seamstress in the garment industry and was employed at Reeds Manufacturing and Lucky Star. She was known as an independent and strong woman, quick-witted, honest, and never afraid to speak her mind. She had a sassy spirit, loved to have a good time, and brought a lively nature into the lives of those around her.
Nothing meant more to Mary than her family. She loved spending time on her porch, tending to her flowers, watching the cows, and caring for her cats. She especially loved taking in stray cats. She also enjoyed visiting and talking with others, and her warm, spirited way made those moments memorable. Mary was the last living sibling in her family, and she also treasured the friendship of Estelle Holley and Willean, who preceded her in death.
She leaves behind a loving family who will miss her deeply: her son, Jackie Ridings(Nita); her daughters, Ann Waddle, Wanda Christopher, and Summer Ridings(Jason); her grandchildren, Debbie Holland, Johnny Cox, Amanda Tucker, and Lee Christopher; and her great-grandchildren, Jamey Holland, Bailee Childers, John Cox, Jackson Cox, Ethan Christopher, and Claire Christopher. She is also survived by her great-great-grandson, Lex Holland. Each of them carries forward memories of her strength, her faith, her humor, and the love she gave so freely.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Jack Ridings, her parents, six siblings, and her sons-in-law, CW Waddle and Tommy Christopher.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00am, September 2, 2026 at Liberty Cemetery in Nettleton, with Bro. Johnny Cox officiating. Pallbearers will be Jason Childers, Lee Christopher, Jamey Holland, John Cox, Jackson Cox, and Ethan Christopher. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Tyler and James Dykes.
Mary Ruth Ridings will be remembered for her strong will, her deep faith, her sharp wit, and the love she had for her family, her home, and the simple things that brought her joy. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
