Amory – Mary Irene Carter, 94, died on Friday, August 8, 2014, at Oak Tree Manor. Born on June 5, 1920, in Eros, LA, she was a daughter of the late Walter Houston and Allie Bell Sims.

She and her late husband moved to Amory in 1986, upon his retirement. She was Baptist. A very pleasant and caring person, she enjoyed shopping, watching TV, especially Wheel of Fortune, and especially loved Elvis.

Survivors include her son, Donnie W. Hightower (Karen), Amory; grandchildren, Roxanne Aiken (Charles), Fleming Island, FL, and Dwayne Hightower (Nicole), Tupelo; great-grandchildren, Drew, Sam, and Rachel Aiken; John Curtis and Luke Hightower; and brother, Jackie Sims (Barbara), West Monroe, LA.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Leander A. Hightower, who died in 1941; her second husband, Curtis L. Carter, who died in 2004; brothers, Fitchew and Daniel Sims; and sisters, Clara Flannigan and Margie Levy.

A Graveside Service will be at 4 PM, Saturday, August 9 at Haughton Memorial Park with Bro. Lloyd Minor officiating.

Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery at 3:50 PM.
