Margaret Jewel Smith Cadden, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2026, at The Meadows in Fulton. She was born September 11, 1935, in Lexington, Mississippi to V.L. and Jewel McMullan Smith. She graduated from Forest High School and furthered her education at East Central Junior College then at The University of Southern Mississippi.
A lifelong educator, Margaret taught elementary school for 37 years, first in Mississippi for 27 years then 10 years in Tennessee. She was a well-respected teacher, having been awarded “Teacher of the Year” at three different schools.
She was actively involved in each of the communities she and her family resided, holding memberships in The Garden Club, The Fidelia Club, Junior Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and numerous bridge clubs.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ernest Carlisle Cadden, Jr. (Sonny), her parents, her daughter, Dollie Jewel Cadden and daughter in law, Kathy Cox Cadden. Her survivors include her sons, Lee of Amory and Carl (Sherri) of Amory. Additional survivors include her grandchildren, Blake (Caitlin) of Franklin, Tennessee and Kelsey of Oxford and great-grandchildren Katherine and Brooks of Franklin, Tennessee.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Dr. Allen Simpson presiding. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until time of service at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Grant Nerren, Tim Rutledge, David Millender, Steve Stockton, Tommy Cadden, and Sam Nerren.
