Lynne Carnathan

Amory - Lela “Lynne” Pope Carnathan was a spunky and full of life mother, grandmother, and friend. She left this world on March 3, 2022 at the young age of 79.

She was born to Benjamin Franklin and Lela Driskell McAfee Pope on February 24, 1943 in Amory, MS, where she resided her entire life. She attended Amory schools as well as Itawamba Junior College before starting her career as a legal secretary. She was married to her husband of 29 years, George Edwin “Big Ed” Carnathan on December 31, 1983.

Lynne’s passion was living a full and fun life with her multitude of rescued dogs. She loved her pugs most of all. Lynne is remembered as a fiery and feisty individual who made it a point to stand out and be the life of any party. Her hobbies included reading, dancing on Saturday nights, browsing community yard sales with her daughter, and crafting. In her later years, she enjoyed making flamboyant hats for the girls in her monthly Bunco group that she loved so much. She was a member of Cason Baptist Church.

She is survived by her brother, Jimmy Pope (Mary Ann), Amory; son, Benjie Barrett, Hatley; daughter, Cassie Hester (Danny), Cason Community; step-son, Keith Carnathan, Hatley; grandsons, Bo Barrett (Tammy), Greenwood Springs, Ben Barrett (Amber), Pearl, MS; granddaughters, Mari Caitlyne Harris, Smithville, Olivia Carnathan, Corinth; step-grandson, Jeremy Hester (Melisah), Hamilton; and a host of great grandchildren.
