Loraine Ardella Chism, 84, born on August 1, 1941, in Superior, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025, at her daughter's residence in Smithville, Mississippi. She was the beloved daughter of Myrtle Pleau Tahtinen and William Harold Tahtinen.
She graduated from High School in Superior, Wisconsin and moved to Mississippi. On August 28, 1961, she was united in marriage to her cherished husband, Bill Chism, with whom she shared a remarkable 55 years of love and companionship. He was her best friend, partner, constant companion. Their life together was filled with love, loyalty, a quiet strength with a bond that stood the test of time. They were blessed by God with three children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She worked for many years at the Amory Walmart where her dedication was evident throughout her career. At work she embraced the genuine bonds formed among her coworkers, who became like a second family to her. Her exceptional customer service and radiant smile brightened the day for countless patrons, showcasing her passion for serving the public.
Beyond her professional life, Loraine was an avid lover of the outdoors, finding joy and solace in the beauty of God's creations. Her yard was meticulously cared for through the years. Loraine cherished the moments spent shopping with family and friends and was particularly known for her unwavering support and enthusiasm for her grandchildren's activities. She attended school events and sporting competitions with pride, embodying the role of the proudest Mamaw, who always wore a smile. Her laughter and warmth brought people together, embodying the essence of a family matriarch.
In addition to family gatherings and shopping, Loraine had a passion for watching Nascar and drag racing, often attending the events in person. These experiences supercharged her life and provided opportunities for travel and creating great memories with loved ones.
Loraine was the best "Mamaw" and will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. Her unwavering love for her family, her strong faith, and her spirited nature will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her..
Loraine is survived by her loving son, Kenneth "Ken" Chism; her daughter, Sheila Chism; and her son-in-law, Bobby Gosa. She was a proud grandmother to Alisha Parham and her husband Drew, Brian Berryman and his wife Tabitha, Jayson Gosa, and Tanya Gosa. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Isaac, Drew, and Molly Houk; Caden, Emersyn, and Yeates Parham; Aaliyah, Kylie, and Bentley Berryman; and Tomas, Damian, Maria, Miguel, and Juan Gosa.
Loraine joins her dearly departed family members including her beloved husband, Bill Chism, mother, Myrtle Pleau Tahtinen, father, Williams Harold Tahtinen, daughter, Linda Gosa, and brothers Jim and David Tahtinen, as well as her sisters, Doris and Arlene Tahtinen.
A visitation will be held in her honor from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on December 8, 2025, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, MS. A graveside service will be held at Greenbrier Cemetery, Becker, MS at 2:30 PM with Bro. Robert Fowlkes officiating. Pallbearers will be Drew Houk, Isaac Houk, Andy Hood, Drew Parham, Danny Russell and Joey Knight.
