Jerry Reese

Jerry Reese of Amory, Mississippi, passed away at his home on August 12, 2026, surrounded by the legacy of a life devoted to faith, family, community, and service.

Jerry was born October 5, 1938, to Russell and Wilma Thomas Reese. He graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School and continued his education at Itawamba Community College and Mississippi College. He was also a graduate of the LSU School of Banking and the Tennessee Commercial Lending School.

Jerry began his banking career with Bank of Amory in 1960. Over the next 39 years, he built a distinguished career in banking while serving the people and businesses of Amory and Monroe County. He retired in 1999 as Senior Vice President of Peoples Bank. Throughout his career, Jerry valued the relationships he developed with customers, coworkers, and members of the community he was proud to call home.

Jerry believed in giving back to the institutions and community that had been an important part of his life. He served on the Itawamba Community College Foundation Board, supporting the college where he had once been a student and helping further educational opportunities for future generations.

While Jerry enjoyed a long and successful professional career, his greatest devotion was to his family. He and his wife, Glenda Clayton Reese, shared 66 years of marriage and built a life together centered on family, faith, and love.

Jerry was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Amory, where he faithfully served as Deacon. His Christian faith was an important part of his life and was reflected in his commitment to his church, his family, and his community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Wilma Thomas Reese, and his brother, James Roy Reese.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Glenda Clayton Reese; two sons, Phil Reese (Sara) of Pulaski, Tennessee, and Mark Reese (Alicia) of Amory, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Katie Reese (Carlos Infante) of Mexico City, Mexico, Sam Reese (Grace) of Pulaski, Tennessee, and Clayton Reese of Amory, Mississippi; two great-grandchildren, Phillip Reese and Andy Reese of Pulaski, Tennessee; brothers, Steve Reese (Gail) and David Reese (Diane) of Fulton, Mississippi; and sisters, Patty Jo Stevens (Bobby Joe) of Smithville, Mississippi, Sheryl Clark of Denver, Colorado, Trisha Spaeth (Bernie) of Perry Park, Colorado, and Rhonda Brumley of Fulton, Mississippi.

Jerry’s life was marked by quiet dedication—to his family, his faith, his profession, and the community of Amory that he served for so many years. His influence will continue through the family he loved, the people whose lives he touched, and the example of faithfulness and service he leaves behind.

Visitation will be held on August 15, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Amory, Mississippi, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Dr. Allen Simpson.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Reese, Phil Reese, Sam Reese, Clayton Reese, David Reese, Steve Reese, and Brock Reese. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry’s lifelong friends, Lester Cagle and Steve Greenhaw, along with the Deacons of First Baptist Church of Amory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Jerry’s memory to the ICC Foundation Scholarship Fund, Itawamba Community College, 602 West Hill Street, Fulton, MS 38843, or to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 540, Amory, MS 38821.
