Jean Patterson

Nettleton – Jean Wilson Patterson, 94, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Traceway Manor in Tupelo, MS. She finished her work here on earth and began her new life in Heaven where a sweet reunion took place. Jean was born on October 18, 1929, in Nettleton, MS to the late John and Thelma Sisk Wilson.

Jean grew up in Nettleton with two other sisters and graduated from Nettleton High School with the class of 1947. In high school, she met her sweetheart, Odell Patterson and it was love at first sight. They were married on April 26, 1947, right after graduation, and they spent 69 years of their lives together until his passing in 2016. If you saw Odell, Jean was by his side and they did everything together as they were lifelong best friends.

Odell was a great provider and Jean also wanted to help so she went to work in the area garment factories as a seamstress. She worked at both Red Kap in Amory as well as Reeds Manufacturing in Tupelo until she retired. Even after retirement, she used her amazing skills in sewing to create and alter clothing for her family and friends.

She was an amazing cook, always having family over and doing for others. Whenever there was a crisis in life, everyone close to her could count on her to be there for them. Her faith in God was evident to all she met and she loved listening to Gospel music, especially the Gaithers. Jean was a longtime member of Nettleton Methodist Church and she enjoyed being around her church family.

Jean was so proud of her family and was an awesome grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Her family has so many great memories of the countless times when she cooked fantastic meals for them as well as her beautiful gardens where she worked the land God gave her.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to the Staff of the Reed House at Traceway Manor as well as Gentiva Hospice. They took such great care of her and loved her as their own.

There is no doubt that Jean will be missed yet her family knows that she has longed for this day as she is healed and in the presence of God. They are so grateful for legacy and wonderful influence in their lives.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Weaver (John), Nettleton, MS; son, Terry Patterson (Kay), Nettleton, MS; grandchildren, Carrie Scott (Kerry), Clay Patterson (Blair), Hope Langford (Chad), and Wilson Weaver (Brooke); great-grandchildren, Drew Langford (Samantha), Anna Langford, Leah Langford; Mary Claire, Eleanor and Cora Mae Weaver; Taylor Culver (Ryan); Cade and Parker Patterson; great-great-grandchildren, Walker and Mattie Jean Culver; sister, Miriam Gilmore, Nettleton, MS; special friend, Linda Fay Randle; a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Odell and her sister, Larue Ford.
