Eleanor Jane Gray Hoots

Amory – Eleanor Jane Gray Hoots, 92, passed away at her residence and met her Savior face to face on Thursday, September 26, 2024. She was born on June 9, 1932, in Monroe County, Mississippi to the late William Robert “Bob” Gray and Josephine Parlee Derrick Gray.

Jane grew up in Monroe County and attended schools in Amory, Mississippi. She was blessed by God with a loving husband, Ollie David Hoots, whom she married on October 29,1955. They shared many wonderful years together and God gave them four beautiful children and a large extended family. Jane was a very nurturing mother and loving wife. Of all her accomplishments in life, Jane was most proud of raising her family and always being there for them.

She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Becker, MS and she loved the Lord with all her heart. Her church family meant the world to her and she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and babysitting in the nursery as well as babysitting for people in the community. Her quiet time with God was cherished and she loved to dive deep into God’s word.

Her servant spirit was evident to all that met her. During Halloween, her treats were always a favorite with the local children as she would make homemade popcorn balls for the trick or treaters every year. Jane was also a great neighbor and friend but most of all a great mother. The legacy of love she leaves behind with her daughters will be cherished forever. She will be missed so much.

Left behind to treasure the memories shared are her daughters, Arlene McRee, Louin, MS, Darlene Stockton (Steve), Amory, and Jolene Hoots, Amory; grandchildren, Laticia Edwards, Mikey Edwards (Dani), Autumn McRee Summrall (Casey), James T. Mcree, III (Liz Trueblood), Josh Stockton (Adrianna); a host of great grandchildren; brother, Clyde Gray (Bea), Becker Community, MS.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ollie David Hoots; son, Michael Edwards (Barbara); sister, Nelle Camp; Brothers, Bill Gray, Joe Gray, Kirk Gray, and Ed Gray; a son-in-law, Jim McRee.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 2:00 pm at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amry, MS with Bro. Rodney Waycaster and Bro. Jim McClurkan officiating.
