James Michale "Mike" Collums

James Michale Collums, born on December 3, 1966, in Amory, Mississippi, passed away on May 21, 2025, in the same beloved town that shaped him. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, generosity, and an unwavering spirit that touched all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A dedicated professional, James spent many years as a Tool and Die maker at NTN. His hands crafted intricate designs and solutions, but it was as a firefighter from 1988 to 2000 that he truly found his calling. Every day on the job was a testament to his courage and commitment to helping others in their most vulnerable moments. He later became an EMR instructor and Fire Chief, sharing his knowledge and inspiring others to serve their communities. He was immensely proud of his contributions, taking great joy in being the reason his son pursued a similar path.

James graduated from Smithville High School, where he first developed a strong work ethic that would follow him throughout his life. He was a man who made the impossible possible with his hands and his heart. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodwork, and any project that allowed him to create and improve. He also found solace in working on his home, often reflecting his love for family in the details of his surroundings.

Beyond his vocational achievements, James was known for his kind and giving nature, always finding ways to support families in need. He was a member of Bethel Apostolic Church in Amory, where his faith and beliefs grounded him in his everyday life. His personal motto, "Don’t let the bad days win," served as a guiding light for him and those around him, a mantra that encapsulated his outlook on life.

Recently celebrating 40 years with his wife, Cindy Tackett Collums, their bond stood as a testament to true partnership. Married for 36 beautiful years, they shared countless memories and adventures together, providing a nurturing foundation for their son, Michael Tyler Collums, whom they adored. James is also survived by his mother, Patricia Collums, and his father-in-law, Wayne Tackett, who have cherished him through every stage of his life.

He was preceded in death by his father, James "Jimmy" Harrison Collums, mother-in-law, Helen Tackett, and sister-in-law, Missy Tackett. Their absence will be felt deeply, but their memories will live on in the hearts of those who loved them.

James was not only a friend but a confidant and companion to many, with closest friends including Chris Edwards, who shared unforgettable moments of work and hunting experiences; Robin and Ethan Frederick, who also played significant roles in his life. They will forever hold dear the laughter and memories they created together.

A visitation to honor James will be held on May 25, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Smithville, Mississippi with Bro. Stanley Blaylock officiating. Here, family and friends will gather to share stories, reflect on his remarkable life, and celebrate a legacy of love, strength, and resilience that will endure through the lives he touched.

As we remember James Michale Collums, let us carry forward his spirit of giving, his love for family, and his belief that each day is a gift—one we should never take for granted. May he rest in eternal peace, leaving a profound impact that will resonate in our hearts forever.
