Gary Kennedy, a devoted family man and passionate aviator, passed away on May 5, 2026. Born in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 12, 1958, Gary lived a life marked by dedication, honesty, and an active spirit. He proudly graduated from Nettleton High School and was known among family and friends for his hardworking nature and confident demeanor.
Gary’s enduring love for flying was matched by his enjoyment of camping, fishing, and music, especially gospel quartets, classic rock, and country tunes. His cherished possession was undoubtedly his plane, symbolizing the freedom and joy he found in the skies. Gary truly enjoyed his time with his buddies, Gary Monaghan, Mickey Williams, Van Gibson and Perry Lowery.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Betty Kennedy, and their children: sons Chris Kennedy (Brittany), Tim McBunch, Chris Canyon, and Joshua Canyon; daughters Angela Wood (Shane) and Felicia Canyon (Colby). Gary took immense pride in his numerous grandchildren—Aubree, Brynlee, Rylan, Payton, Hunter, Kelsey, Kenleigh, Alaina, Joshua, Kaylee, Paisley, Taylor, Addy, and Riley—as well as two great-grandchildren who added immeasurable joy to his life.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Larry, and his sister Amie Ray. Their memory remains a cherished part of his legacy.
A visitation will be held on May 8, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, Mississippi. Following this, a Celebration of Life will take place from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The service will be officiated by Bro. Alan Hall. Pallbearers honoring Gary’s memory will include Mickey Williams, Colby Ling, Shane Wood, Tim McBunch, Chris Canyon, and Jayden Forrester, with honorary pallbearer Maverick Peters.
Gary Kennedy’s proudest accomplishments were his children, grandchildren, and his lifelong passion for flying planes. His legacy is one of integrity, love, and active engagement with the world around him. He will be remembered with great respect and affection by all who knew him.
