Gary "John Booker" Wayne Bowen

Amory – Gary Bowen, 53, left his earthly home to start his new life in heaven on April 5, 2021. He was born on April 26, 1967, in Amory, MS to the late Jimmy Mack Bowen and Jeanette Brown Bowen.

Booker grew up in a large family, where he was one of 9 siblings. There were five sisters and 3 brothers. He attended school at Amory High. Due to being disabled, he never worked full time, yet he stayed very busy loving others, helping around the house, and living life to the fullest extent. He loved his family, having a special place in his heart for his mother and his Aunt Doris. When his mother became ill, in the later years of her life, he became her full time caretaker for over a year. He stayed by her side and he was a great comfort to the rest of the family with his constant presence around her.

Booker loved people yet he had no problem traveling this life on his own as he knew God was beside him. He was studying to become a preacher and he knew his Heavenly father well. He liked to talk about God to others and he was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Amory. He cared about people and really was passionate about helping kids, especially St. Jude’s Hospital. His dog, “Lady Bug”, was one of his best friends and he liked to walk her often through the neighborhood. He was a good neighbor and enjoyed visiting with them as he passed through. Some of his other close friends were Danny Yielding, James Dean, and Gordon Hester. They liked to go out to eat with each other, solving all the world’s problems as they partook. At times, he was a comedian, always making other smile.

He was rambunctious at times and high spirited, always looking on the bright side of everything. Almost every day, Booker took a walking trip to Dairy Cream, where he enjoyed their fantastic food and milkshakes. Booker touched so many lives with his simple kind heart and genuine smile.

A precious soul, Booker was a kind man whom was loved by so many. His presence will be missed dearly yet there is comfort knowing he is with his heavenly Father.

Left behind to treasure his memories, are his sisters, Betty Reeves (Roy), Vernon, AL, Nancy Bowen (J.J. Caldwell), Carolina Community, Judy Neal (Douglas), Amory, Jeanie Morris (Ray), Aberdeen; brother, Michael Bowen (Billie), Becker; his Aunt, Doris Kennedy, Amory; his Uncle, Charles Wilbert Nix, Amory; a host of nieces and nephews; many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy Mack Bowen and Jeanette Brown Bowen; brothers, Jamey McAuthor Bowen, and Billy Freeman; sister, Pamela Kennedy.
