Eva Ritter Overstreet

Eva Ritter Overstreet, 92, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on May 8, 2025, at the West Point Community Living Center. Born on June 8, 1932, in Glenwood, Georgia, she lived a life that was a testament to hard work, love, and a spirit that shone brightly through every challenge faced.

Eva was well-known for her dedicated career as a cook at Golden Corral Restaurant, where her culinary delights nourished both body and spirit. Beyond her work, she was a proud member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, where her faith and community spirit flourished. Her education concluded after the 6th grade in Glenwood, but it did not define her intelligence or capability. She was a true testament to the fact that wisdom often goes beyond textbooks, characterized by her hardworking nature and her outgoing personality. Eva always meant what she said, and her words carried the weight of sincerity.

As a devoted mother, Eva's proudest accomplishment was raising her family, a role she cherished deeply. She had a love for gardening, cooking, fishing, and an endearing fondness for watching westerns and soap operas. These interests were an extension of her vibrant personality, drawing in those around her with warmth and zest for life.

She leaves behind a multitude of loved ones, including her cherished grandchildren: Teresa Swartz (Glenn), Sadie Keeton, Angela Harrelson (Richard), Calvin Chavis (Sherry), David Chavis, Chuckie Godwin, Mindy Godwin, and Thomas Taylor (Amber). Eva was also blessed with a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who will carry on her legacy of love and resilience.

Eva is preceded in death by her parents, Joe B Ritter and Louise Strickland; children, Louise West and Charlie Godwin, along with several siblings, and her beloved grandson, James Chavis. Their memories will forever remain intertwined with hers, as she joins them in eternal peace.

The visitation for Eva will be held on May 12, 2025, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Joseph D Chavis, Josh Chavis, Justin West, Calvin Chavis, Chris Cayson, Shawn Swartz, and Roy Rinehart. Family and friends are invited to share in these moments of remembrance, reflecting on the profound impact Eva had on all who knew her.
