Elizabeth Joann Burleson Tackett, known lovingly as Joann, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, in Tupelo, MS. Born on May 15, 1938, in Tupelo, MS, Joann lived a life marked by steadfast faith, unwavering love, and deep commitment to her family and community.
Joann was a beacon of kindness and warmth, a caring and loving person whose spirit touched the lives of many. She took immense pride in having overcome cancer, a testament to her remarkable strength and resilience. Her Pentecostal faith was a guiding light throughout her life, providing comfort and hope in times of challenge.
A devoted fan of the Shannon Red Raiders, Joann's passions extended beyond the game. She deeply cherished gospel music, finding solace and joy in its melodies. Her love for cooking and sewing was well known among family and friends, who often enjoyed the fruits of her creativity and care. For more than 40 years, Joann dedicated herself to her work at Amory Garment, where her diligence and commitment earned her respect and admiration.
Joann was surrounded by love in her final days, accompanied by special friends Cindy Hubbard, Pam Mitchell, and Renee from dialysis, whose companionship provided comfort and support.
She is survived by a loving family who remember her with great affection. Her daughter Melinda Aldridge and son-in-law Steve uphold her legacy, along with granddaughters Haley Jackson (Shane), Nikki Fletcher (James), and Susan Aldridge. Her grandsons, Chris and Dewayne Randolph, remember her strength and warmth fondly. Joann’s family extends through 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, each carrying forward her spirit and love. She also leaves behind her cherished sisters—Donna Kay Pickering, Willie Francis Rowland, and Helen Joyce Logan—who shared in the joys and sorrows of her long life.
Joann was preceded in death by her beloved parents and her husband, Glenn Tackett. She also mourns the loss of her daughter Valessa Randolph, sister Madgie May Curbow, Earline Matthews, and brothers James Burleson, Excil Burleson, Thomas Burleson, and Buddy Burleson.
The community and all who knew Joann will greatly miss her gentle presence and generous heart. Her life, a testament to love, faith, and perseverance, leaves a lasting legacy for all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A viewing will be held on March 25, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, MS. The funeral service will follow at the same location from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, with Pastor Bro Charles Petty officiating, honoring Joann’s life and the indelible mark she made on each of us.
Joann Tackett’s journey here may have ended, but her love, strength, and faith remain eternally in our hearts. May she rest in peace.
