Donald McCain

Donald McCain, born on January 8, 1947, in Monroe County, left this world on October 27, 2025, at the Sanctuary Hospice House. He was a Christian and loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He spent his life living out his faith by serving various churches, including Mooreville, Cornerstone, Grenada Grace, Ackerman, Wesley, and St. Mark's. Prior to entering ministry, He was a lineman with Monroe County Power. His commitment to service extended beyond the church walls, as he was also an active volunteer at Amory First Methodist Church, where he made a significant impact on the community.

Education played an important role in Don’s life, as he attended Hatley from 6th through 12th grade before pursuing further studies at Itawamba Community College (ICC), Mississippi State University, and University of Mississippi. He also attended The Memphis Theological Seminary. These experiences not only shaped his career but also deepened his strong faith, which was a cornerstone of his being.

Don was passionate about disaster relief, advocating for veterans, and helping the poor and homeless. He was involved with the Wesley Foundation and the Methodist Youth at ICC. These commitments reflect his character—a man who loved serving people and found joy in being helpful to those in need.

In his leisure time, Don enjoyed reading, writing, golf, archery, walking/exercise, and fishing. His creativity shined in one of his proudest achievements, which was having published two or three children's books and contributing writings to Tombigbee Magazine. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Barbara Monaghan Harlow, daughter Amy Wyatt and her husband Trae; stepdaughter Lori Pressley and her husband Greg, Jenny Harris and her husband Brent; son Robert McCain and his wife Marcella; stepson Michael Harlow and his wife Tina; and brother Morris McCain. Don was also a proud grandfather to Sebastian, Lucas, and Will McCain, Lacey Wyatt, Ashley Harlow, Aaron Pressley, Taylor, Jayla, and Anna Claire Harris, Chelsea Simmons, and Courtney Paige. He cherished the time spent with his eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, enriching their lives with his wisdom and kindness.

Donald was proceeded in death by his parents, W.A. McCain and Mary Lou McDonald McCain, and his first wife, Joan Roche McCain, who he was married to for 51 years. His legacy of service, love, and faith will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
