Columbus W Morris, Jr.

Smithville – Columbus W. Morris, Jr., passed away on August 15, 2020, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. Born on January 7, 1930, in Alabama, he was a son of the late Arra Kizzire and Columbus Washington Morris, Sr.

Columbus came from a large family and attended school in Vernon and Sulligent. He married the love of his life, Annie Kathleen “Kat” Reed July 23, 1949. Together they raised a large family and were happily married for many years. Columbus loved to dance. On July 20, 2000, just 3 days before their 51st Anniversary, Kat lost the battle to cancer. Although he missed her dearly, he continued to dance through life, loving his family and children and cherishing every moment. He will be missed by so many, but never forgot by any. This precious mom and dad are reunited for eternity.

He is survived by two sons, Reggy C. Morris (Linda), Becker, Eddy J. Morris (Tina), Fulton; three daughters, Wyvonia J Finch, Fulton, Rose. A Strawhorn, Amory, Reta C Phillips (David), Smithville; special daughter in law, Estelle Morris, Smithville; 22 grandchildren, Steven and Chad Morris; Angie Coxey; April Crane; Tommy and Matthew Morris; Lois Vance; Paul Adam Goforth; Jonathan, Michael, Anthony, Billy Joe and Kevin Morris; James, Mickey, Christopher, and Scott Strawhorn; Angie Phillips; Lisa Petty; Gary C., Ira, and Tracy Brown; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Troy Dee Morris (Betty), Aberdeen, Andrew Jackson “Jake” Morris, Nettleton; sister, Shirley Benefield (Johnny), Okolona; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kat Morris; four sons, Oral Lee, Zachary Randolph, Kenneth Lynn, and Stevie Dee Morris; a daughter, Karen Irene Morris; three grandchildren, Dwayne Goforth; Becky and Renee Morris; several great grandchildren; special daughter in law, Virginia Petty Morris; two special son in laws, Jerry Richard Goforth and Houston Harold Strawhorn; five brothers, Albert Kizzire, Rede, Floyd, Lloyd, and Leon Morris; a sister, Gertrude Williams.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2020, at 10:00 am at Cross Bound Church, Smithville, MS, with Bro. Charles Ray Petty officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Predestinarian Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Crews, AL, with the committal officiated by Bro. Brandon Harris. Pallbearers will be Chad Morris, Billy Joe Morris, Christopher Strawhorn, Albert Young, Gary C. Brown, and Ira Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steven Morris, Paul Adam Goforth, Christopher Petty, his special friends at the Dance Hall in Carolina Community, Fulton and Brewer.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Cross Bound Church on Friday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Please observe Covid-19 recommendations on social distancing and wear a mask to all events.
