Clytee Raper, a loving mother, devoted grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, at the age of 88 in Fayette, Alabama. Born on September 24, 1937, in Truman, Arkansas, Clytee was known for her infectious laughter, unwavering work ethic and the immense love she poured into her family. She worked and retired from United Technologies.
Throughout her life, Clytee embraced many passions, particularly her love for cooking and gardening. Family gatherings were always a highlight, where Clytee would fill the kitchen with delightful aromas, creating meals that would warm both bellies and hearts. She had a special talent for bringing people together around the dinner table, making every get-together feel like a homecoming, filled with love and laughter.
Clytee's vibrant personality shone through in all aspects of her life. She was not only a hard worker but also possessed a mischievous sense of humor that brought joy to those around her. Her lighthearted spirit made even the simplest moments memorable. In addition to her culinary talents, she found joy in gardening, filling her home with lush plants and beautiful blooms. She also loved exploring thrift stores and yard sales, often finding hidden treasures that she would joyfully share with her family.
A proud matriarch, Clytee dedicated herself to her family, and her greatest accomplishments were rooted in the love she nurtured among her loved ones. She is survived by her beloved spouse, Cloys Leon Raper; her son, Rev. Randal Raper (Janet); her daughter, Dwan Raper. As a grandmother, she adored her grandchildren Gary Raper (Brooke) and Amy Shamp (Jesse) and embraced her role as a great grandmother to Titan Raper, Issachar Shamp, and Erik Raper. Clytee was also deeply connected with her brothers, William Lloyd “Butch” Barrett, Paul Barrett, and Steve Barrett and numerous nieces and nephews.
Throughout her life, Clytee shared a special bond with her closest friend, Jan Varnon. Together, they created countless memories, including wonderful beach trips filled with laughter and adventure.
Clytee was greeted in heaven by her parents, Albert and Opel Jacobs Barrett, as well as her sister Evelyn Thompson, sister Barbara Raper, and her son Darrell Raper. Their spirits will forever remain intertwined, and their memories will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration for all who knew her.
Services to honor Clytee's remarkable life will take place on January 30, 2026, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, Mississippi. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM with Bro. Andy Tentoni officiating, concluding with a final farewell at 12:00 PM.
As we reflect on Clytee's life, we remember her generous heart, her love for her family, and the laughter she shared. She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will continue to inspire those who were lucky enough to have known her. She will be dearly missed but her spirit will forever linger in the gardens she nurtured and in the hearts of her family and friends.
