Claydeen Freeman Allen, a cherished member of the community, passed away on September 9, 2025, in Tupelo, Mississippi, at the age of 97. Born on June 29, 1928, in Lowndes County, she exemplified a life dedicated to family, faith, and service.

Claydeen was a 1946 graduate of Caledonia High School, Caledonia, MS. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Mississippi University for Women in 1950.

Claydeen began her career as a physical education teacher, laying the groundwork for over 30 years in education. From 1950 to 1952, she taught in McComb, Mississippi, and spent an admirable 28 years at Amory City Schools, where she also shared her passion for sports as a coach in basketball, tennis, and track, ultimately retiring in 1988. Her commitment to physical education influenced countless students and athletes throughout her tenure.

A defining aspect of Claydeen's life was her profound love for her family. She is survived by her son, Greg Allen (Cindy) of Tupelo; her daughter, Debbie Allen-Boyd (Bill) of Newnan, Georgia; and a legacy of grandchildren: Allen Doolittle, Laura Worden (Ryan), Lee Allen (Katy), Blake Allen (Amy), Matthew Fooshee (Jenna), Shelby Fooshee Smith (Casey), and Cody Fooshee (Heather). Additionally, Claydeen delighted in her great-grandchildren, who include Bailey Doolittle, Joybella Doolittle, Hyatt Doolittle, Emory Worden, Eve Worden, Tyler Allen, Anna Kate Allen, Ziggy Allen, Freddie Allen, Kayden Fooshee, Camdyn Smith, Chesnee Smith, Rylee Fooshee, and Brooks Fooshee. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who she cherished dearly.

Claydeen was a woman of unwavering faith, serving for many years as a Sunday school teacher in the children’s department at First Baptist Church, where her spirit of giving became a beacon of light for both the young and the community at large. Her love for gardening, yard work, and tennis reflected her vibrant personality. She treasured her moments with her family, church and visiting nursing homes. She also enjoyed watching all sports on television.

Preceding her in death are her beloved husband of 56 years, Joe C. Allen, Jr.; her daughter, Cheryl Allen Doolittle; her great-grandson, Brady Joseph Fooshee; her parents, Erwyn and Ollie Freeman; and her siblings: Jewell Brown, Earl Freeman, Addie Friedman, Hurd Freeman, Glover Freeman, Brad Freeman, Kelly Freeman, and Lloyd Freeman.

Claydeen's warmth, dedication, and love will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and friends, and her spirit will continue to inspire future generations.

Visitation services will be held at First Baptist Church, Amory, Mississippi on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A Celebration of Life Service will be immediately following visitation at 3:00 PM at the church, with Dr. Allen Simpson officiating. A private family burial will follow in the Historical Society Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Amory First Baptist Church's building fund.
