Charles Sutton

Charles Sutton, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of the Hamilton community, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Amory, Mississippi. Born on September 18, 1938, in Hamilton, Mississippi, to the late John Allen Sutton, Sr. and Laura Wayne Smithson Sutton, Charles spent a life marked by dedication to his family as well as an enterprising spirit.

Charles began his career as an employee of the Kerr McGee Chemical Plant, working in the maintenance department during his younger years. His sharp mind and savvy nature led him later in life to become a skilled tradesman, turning deals into profitable ventures. Alongside close friends O'Neal Whitaker and Grady Rollins, he found joy and fulfillment in the challenge of wheeling and dealing—making a business out of trading anything and everything with a keen eye for opportunity. Some of his other close friends were Dorothy Reeves and Betty Ruth Ray. This entrepreneurial spark that Charles had exemplified the vigor and resourcefulness that defined his character.

Above all, Charles was a man who treasured his family with a fierce and unyielding love. He was the most supportive father and grandfather, known for his wisdom and fairness — he had no favorites, and all who knew him understood fully that his love was equally and unconditionally shared among his children and grandchildren. The values he instilled and the affectionate regard he held for his family remain among his proudest accomplishments. His lifelong partnership with Christine Sutton, his best friend and love of over 64 years, was a testament to enduring devotion and companionship.

Charles was also a man who enjoyed simple pleasures such as tinkering with cars and fixing them up, activities through which he expressed both creativity and care. More than anything, he relished spending time with the friends and family who surrounded him with love and laughter.

He is survived by his children Charles A. Sutton and his wife Cathy, Beverly Sutton, and Pam Sutton; grandchildren, Eric Sutton, Nathan Sutton and his wife Sadie, and Crystal Sutton; as well as great-grandchildren, Joshua Sutton and his wife Maple, Steven Sutton and his wife Patelyn, Jordan Sutton, Attie Sutton, Reese Sutton, Jordan Rogers, and Jacob Rogers; his sisters, Mildred Murph, Betty Faye Owens, and Nancy Seely; along with numerous nieces and nephews, also carry forward his memory and legacy.

Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife, Christine Sutton; parents, John Allen Sutton, Sr. and Laura Wayne Smithson; son, Richard Sutton; grandchildren, Joshua Wayne Sutton and Gary Dale Sutton; and siblings, Tommy Sutton, Hilda Smith, Randy Sutton, and John Sutton, Jr.
