Listen to Obituary

Bobby G Oliver, a devoted family man, steadfast railroad worker, and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. Born on August 8, 1939, in Nettleton, Mississippi, Bobby lived a life marked by dedication, humility, and a uniquely candid spirit that endeared him to many.

Bobby’s journey through life was rooted in simplicity and sincerity. He completed his formal education up to the 8th grade at the Carolina School, yet his wisdom and character spoke volumes beyond the classroom walls. His career spanned an impressive 38 years with the Burlington Northern Railroad, a testament to his exceptional work ethic. Notably, he missed only a couple of days throughout his entire career—an achievement that speaks to his reliability and commitment.

Known for his joking character, humble demeanor, and straightforward approach to life, Bobby brought light and laughter to those around him. His favorite sayings—“You betcha,” “Give me $2,” and “My way or the highway”—echoed his personality, reflecting both his humor and his no-nonsense attitude. Beyond work, he found joy and solace in the outdoors, indulging his love for fishing, hunting, and the peaceful embrace of nature. He was a devoted fan of Merle Haggard’s music, a loyal listener of Kudzu 104.9 radio station, and an enthusiastic viewer of the game show Wheel of Fortune. Most of all, he treasured his lake house in Iuka, Mississippi, where countless memories with family and friends were made.

Bobby’s faith as a Christian Man of God was central to his life, providing a foundation of strength and guidance. He was a man who loved deeply and was loved in return by those closest to him.

He is survived by his daughters, Karen Walls (Bodie) and Kim Oliver, who carry forward his legacy of love and perseverance. His grandchildren Nathan Whitaker, Emily Wright (Chanler), and Ryan Walls, along with great-grandchildren Mary Paige Wright and Cooper James Wright, remember him fondly. Bobby’s familial bonds extended to his brother Billy Joe Oliver and sisters Kathleen Oliver and Faye Cooper, as well as a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of over fifty years, Marry Harris Oliver, as well as his brothers Shorty Oliver, Doyle Oliver, and Ruble Oliver. Their memories remain interwoven with his own in the fabric of family history.
