Anita "Nita" Waldrop Watson, a beloved figure in her community and a devoted family matriarch, departed this life on December 27, 2025, in Amory, Mississippi. Born on July 12, 1938, in Sulligent, Alabama, Nita's life was characterized by love, dedication, and a strong commitment to her family and faith.
Nita graduated from Amory High School and embarked on a career that would see her touch the lives of many. From 1956 until her retirement, she served as a bank teller at the former Bank of Amory, where her warm smile and friendly demeanor made her a cherished presence among customers and colleagues alike.
In 2001, Nita faced the heart-wrenching loss of her husband, Bodine "Bo" Watson, her high school sweetheart, with whom she shared 43 beautiful years of marriage. Throughout her life, Nita was known for her unwavering strength and resilience, qualities that remained steadfast in the face of life's challenges. Her proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she loved deeply.
Nita was an active member of First Baptist Church in Amory since the 1940's, where she shared her passion for teaching by leading a Sunday school class. Her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her actions and decisions. In her free time, she enjoyed attending MSU Bulldog baseball, football, and basketball games, proudly holding season tickets to cheer for her team. A lover of travel, she cherished wonderful vacations spent with her dear friends, Norris and Nita Robinson.
Nita had an endearing hobby of collecting swans, a reflection of her gentle spirit and appreciation for beauty. She leaves behind a loving family, including her sons, Dr. Thomas J. Watson (Peggy) and Tim Watson (Van). Nita was blessed with three grandchildren, Adam Watson (Emily) of Amory, Anna Gramling of Fountain, Colorado, and Lucas Watson (Blakely) of Amarillo, Texas, along with two great-grandchildren, Jude Watson and Bo Watson, both of Amory.
Nita's legacy will remain in the hearts of those who knew her, continuing through her family's love and the memories they created together. As we gather to celebrate her life, we find comfort in knowing that her spirit will live on in the cherished moments she shared with us all.
