Nettie Stevens Smithville – Nettie Lora “Mamaw Net” Gregory Stevens went home to be with her Savior and beloved Cecil on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at The Meadows, Fulton. Born on September 30, 1921, in Pontotoc County, she was a daughter of the late John Hartwell and Emily Caledonia Sprayberry Gregory. She married the love-of-her-life, Cecil Clovis Stevens, on September 18, 1937. She worked as a seamstress with Monroe Trousers and Amory Garment, retiring at age 72. A lady of strong faith, she was a dedicated member of Pearce Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. For 30 years, Mamaw Stevens worked in the church nursery. Known to all as “Mamaw Stevens,” she has been a resident of The Meadow’s for the last 7 years. She was an avid gardener, talented seamstress and an exceptional “Down Home” cook. Mamaw Stevens was a never-ending source of love, compassion, hugs, hand pats, swats and very stern looks. Her hobbies were quilting, gardening, watching Channel 39 and listening to Gospel music. An adopted mom to many in the Pearce Chapel Community, her legacy will continue to live on through all the people’s lives she touched. She is survived by her daughter, Ann (Raymond) Clark, Smithville; son, Donnie (Melanie) Stevens, Amory; daughter-in-law, Fay Adams Stevens, Starkville; grandchildren, Christy Savage, Michael (Brenda) Stevens, David (Debra) Stevens, Candace (Mike) Cox, Ray (Julie) Clark, Charmain Bridges, Lori (Bruce) Benton, Nancy Stanford, and Wendy Stevens; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Clovis DeWayne and Jimmy Lee Stevens; daughter-in-law, Linda Armstrong Stevens; great-granddaughter, Bethany Alora Bridges; 5 sisters and 5 brothers. Her family is eternally grateful to the staff of Flowerdale Hall at The Meadows and Leigh Hickman with Sanctuary Hospice for loving “Mamaw Net” as your own. Her Funeral Service will be 1 PM, Saturday, May 27 at the Smithville Chapel of E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. John Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Pearce Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the Flowerdale staff and nurses at The Meadows and the Sanctuary Hospice staff. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Friday at the Smithville Chapel.
