Mary Lou Davis Carothers

Mary Lou Frederick Davis Carothers, 98, passed away Saturday night April 27, 2024 at The Meadows in Fulton where she had resided since February of 2014. She was born December 14, 1925, the daughter of Elmer and Willie Kennedy Frederick of Smithville.

She was an honor student in the seventh grade at Smithville and skipped the eighth grade. She was active in sports and a top forward at basketball in 1942 and 1943. She married James Billy (Bill) Davis of Fulton in 1943, they made their home in the Keyes Community in Itawamba county and they were faithful members of Hopewell Baptist Church.

Mary worked in garment plants for over fifty years, (Amory Garment, Blue Bell at Fulton, Metro at Dorsey, and retired at Reeds of Dorsey as a supervisor after seventeen years there). She moved to Amory in 1999 where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was active in the Triple L Club, the Lydia Sunday School Class, and the Domino Club. She liked to go to the community center for aerobics. She did alterations for Anthony’s Men’s Store and for the public. She loved to visit the elderly and work puzzles. She was a caregiver to Mary Evely Miley. While Alzheimer’s robbed her of her memories, the memory of her will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include, her daughter, Jimmie Lou Stewart Amory, her son, Sidney Dale Davis and his wife, Pat, of Laurel; four grandsons, Keith Stewart of Purdy, Tn., Kenny Stewart of Nashville, Tn., Danny Davis (Jennifer) of Starkville, David Davis, of Starkville; just like grandchildren, Desi Brunty of Laurel, Alden Brunty of Hattiesburg; four great grandchildren, Kasey Wilson (Adrian) of Savannah, Ga., Tony Stewart (Mandy) of Forsyth, Ga., Connor Davis of Starkville, Anna Davis of Starkville; three great great grandchildren, A.J., Eli., and Julianna Wilson of Savannah, Ga. She is also survived by two sisters, Avis Ramey of Fulton and Faye Stevens of Amory; one brother, Jerry Lee Frederick (Patsy) of Smithville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of forty eight years, Bill Davis, in 1991 and her second husband, D.R. Carothers, in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Elmer Frederick; two sisters, Irene Hadaway of Zion, Illinois, and Mavis Nail of Jackson; one brother, James Thelbert Frederick of Amory; and one son-in-law, Jerry Stewart of Nashville, Tennessee.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Mary Lou with her family during visitation at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, 500 South Third Avenue, Amory, MS on May 8, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. A funeral service remembering and celebrating her life will be at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Danny Davis officiating. Interment to follow at Keyes Cemetery in Itawamba County.

Pallbearers will be Keith Stewart, Kenny Stewart, David Davis, and Connor Davis.
